The Freethinkers of Colorado Springs accept points of view verified by engineering, logic, mathematics, and science rather than beliefs stemming from authority, emotion, dogma, or tradition. Founded in 1993 in response to Colorado's Amendment 2, the Freethinkers of Colorado Springs advocate the use of reason, defend the separation of church and state, and support interpersonal dialogue, non-violence, human rights, civil rights, reproductive rights, and equality for all.

Saturday, March 15th Hike

03/15/2008 - 09:00
03/15/2008 - 16:00

Hi Hiking Freethinkers,

The hike this Saturday, March 15th will be the Homestead Trail which I consider a moderately easy hike. There should be no ice or snow on the trail. It is one of the most interesting "city" hikes that I have come across. The hike starts from North Penrose Park then climbs up to the top of a ridge that winds around the east part of town, passing thru Village Seven and Old Farm. After several miles, the trail ends at Stetson Hills Blvd just a bit west of Powers Blvd.

Do you think that being a freethinker stops after you dismiss other people's supernatural notions? If so, think again. For every "Jesus is My Co-pilot" bumper sticker, there's one saying something like "I Slept with ET." When was the last time you took your sister-in-law to task for claiming that she had a paranormal experience after watching an episode of Montel? Join Steven Mahone, past president of the Freethinkers of Colorado Springs, board member of Colorado Citizens for Science, and long-time engineer for a discussion of these questions and many more. Then the next time you hear someone claim that Shania Twain has a paranormal thing for them you'll know it's probably just the "male enhancement" medication talking!

I'd like to invite you to a one-day regional skeptics conference on Saturday March 22nd called "skepticamp." It'll take place in CastleRock.

FTCS Monthly Meeting - Eyes Wide Open

02/27/2008 - 21:00

The location of the February meeting has changed!

February 27, organizers of a local high school's "Eyes Wide Open" program
will speak at the FTCS monthly meeting. "Eyes Wide Open" is a documentary film
series begun to raise community awareness of issues such as "glue boys" in
Sudan, Ugandan child soldiers, AIDS, and life on Native American reservations in
America. The film series was advertised to the whole community, and students
witnessed the ripples in society that are caused when people become aware of

Freethinkers of Colorado Springs Website Update

Welcome to the new dyanmic web site of the FTCS. This site is a overhaul of the old static web site. Some of the changes are:
A dynamic events calendar. A "Groups" section where members of the different freethinkers' groups: such as, Free Thought -- Free Kids, the Hiking Group, and the Women's Group can create events and post private messages to other group members. A private photo gallery. Personal blogs where active members can post their own articles. Polls. And much, much more...
