Hike Homestead Trail on Sunday, May 1st

05/01/2011 - 16:00

Weather permitting, there will be a Homestead Trail hike on Sunday, May 1st. I consider this a moderately easy hike. It is one of the most interesting "city" hikes that I have come across. The hike starts from North Penrose Park then climbs up to the top of a ridge that winds around the east part of town, passing thru Village Seven and Old Farm. After several miles, the trail ends at Stetson Hills Blvd just a bit west of Powers Blvd. North Penrose Park is next to Penrose Elementary School on South Nonchalant Circle. The hike will start at 10:00 AM on South Nonchalant Circle between Dream Lane and Seesaw Lane, where we will head across the park, over a small bridge that goes over a drainage ditch and continue in that general direction to the start of Homestead Trail (next to a small covered seating area).

To get Penrose Park from North Academy and North Carefree Circle, head east on North Carefree Circle about 0.2 mile, then turn right (south) on West Carefree Circle, go about 0.1 mile then turn left (east) on South Nonchalant Circle, go about 0.4 mile to North Penrose Park on your right.

Each hiker can decide on their own if they want to do the entire hike or turn around individually or in small groups to return to their vehicles. Please bring enough water and snacks for the hike.

Due to the number of people on the hike, please let me know if you plan on attending the hike. If you change your mind, please let me know that also.

If you are interested in this hike, please go to www.meetup.com/hiking-freethinkers to RSVP.
