FTCS May 2011 Meeting: Dawkins, Dennett, Harris, Hitchens...The Four Horsemen Discuss Part 2

05/25/2011 - 19:00
05/25/2011 - 21:30

The monthly meeting of the Freethinkers of Colorado Springs takes place on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM. May's meeting will be on the 25th and will take place in the meeting room at the Gill Foundation. The building is on the south side of Costilla Street, between South Wahsatch and South Weber; the address is 315 East Costilla. Please click on "Read more" for complete details ...

There will be a screening of the second hour of a two-hour 2007 roundtable discussion featuring Richard Dawkins, Daniel C Dennett, Sam Harris, and Christopher Hitchens (often branded "The Four Horsemen"), the first hour of which was screened at the March meeting. Among the topics discussed by these four "new" atheists are the offensiveness of religious criticism, humility and arrogance, the good of religion, delegating to authority, and religion vs science. This is a thought-provoking look at the four people most influential in the recent rise in religious criticism.

The Four Horsemen will be preceded by a short clip from the 2009 film The Invention of Lying, a comedy set in a world where no one has ever lied, until a writer seizes the opportunity for personal gain. The film was co-written and co-produced by British comedian, actor, writer, producer, director, and musician Ricky Gervais (who was co-creator of the television series The Office) and the clip contains some great religious satire.

That's The Four Horsemen, Part 2, and a peek at The Invention of Lying at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 25th, at the Gill Foundation, 315 East Costilla Street. As always, everyone's invited, member or not, and admission is free!
