Secular Sunday Brunches: A Springs Freethinker tradition

For several years, Freethinkers of Colorado Springs has been cooperating with
several local nonbeliever groups to hold regular "Secular Sunday Brunches"
here in the Springs.
We have just revamped the schedule and are now planning to hold four
sessions each month.
These events are non-structured, open discussion sessions, but we might start
planning programs for one or more of them in the future. The Sunday morning
time schedule was originally picked to allow folks just escaping from
religioun to attend during a normal meeting time for them. It also works well
for lots of restaurant-oriented Freethinkers.
We have sometimes held these in various rstaurants, but have found that a
place with food service is limited to a single counter, where you get your
stuff then take it to your table, works best. That way a dieting person
doesn't have to buy anything, and no one asks us to leave after all of the
plates are empty. Because of this we have been meeting mostly at Panara Bread
restaurants.
The sessions are open to everyone. They start at 9:30 on Sunday mornings and
end when the last person leaves around 11:30. Some folks show up late, or
leave early. Since its an open event, time of arrival is not too important.
Don't be offended if the topic doesn't please you. Sometimes politics and
"conspiracy theories" are discussed. Just be ready with your statement about
your desired topic when you catch the "conversational ball". If you want to
try to drive the topic to a particular direction, come prepared with pictures
and hand outs, and don't be too upset if the crowd does not follow you.
If you want to attend one of these events, please consider signing up for it
on Meetup.com/FreethinkersCS, or send an email to Gary@BrightHorizon.net. Or
just show up. You'll be welcomed either way. Look for a small sign on the
table that says "Freethinkers and Humanists" or "Freethinkers and Atheists".
You will be expected to share you thoughts on the subjects being discussed, or
be quiet and listen, or offer questions to lead the discussion. It's up to
you..
The first and second Sundays are held at the Panara Bread at 7344 N. Academy
Blvd, in a room at the back of the restaurant. The third and Fourth Sundays
are held at a Panara Bread near Powers Blvd and S. Carefree Ave. ( 3110 New
Center Point ). We usually garb a collection of tables to the left of the
serving area. Look for our signs, and join in.
