Parents--do you have questions about raising kids without religion? Join us here in Colorado Springs on Sunday, March 1, 2009, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm for a half-day workshop presented by Dale McGowan, editor and co-author of Parenting Beyond Belief: On Raising Ethical, Caring Kids Without Religion. Mr. McGowan will address the questions and concerns of secular parents regarding promotion of moral development, handling family pressure to participate in religious activities, easing fears about death without an afterlife, and how to teach children about religion without indoctrinating them.
Parenting Beyond Belief …advises parents on the most effective way to raise freethinking, empathetic, and compassionate children,” (Parenting Beyond Belief, 2007). The book includes additional sections written by many other well-known freethinkers such as Richard Dawkins, Julia Sweeny and Penn Jillette. This is a very comprehensive, practical guide for any secular family whether you want information on handling the holidays, how to promote ethics and values, or dealing with death and belief in afterlife. During the workshop, Dale will explain and expand on the concepts within the book, and provide parents with real-world information for raising their children without religion.
