Citizens Project at Monthly Meeting

06/23/2010 - 19:00
06/23/2010 - 21:00

The Freethinkers of Colorado Springs is excited to be hosting Kristy Milligan, the Development Director and Program Manager of Citizens Project, as our guest speaker on Wednesday, June 23rd. Citizens Project (CP) began in 1992, partially in response to the passage of the ill-conceived Amendment 2, but always with an eye toward maintaining the separation of church and state, and the safeguarding of academic integrity in our public schools.

CP functions as a local “watchdog” group and Publishes Freedom Watch through which they strive to educate voters. They also host the annual Creating Community Breakfast and annual Divine Award (honoring a person who is committed to their values). This year they also organized a one-day symposium entitled the Citizens Religious Freedom Institute during which teachers, administrators, parents and students were invited to learn about, and discuss, the law and best practices to protect the religious freedom of students in our public schools.

Currently CP is pro-actively involved in city council discussions in an attempt to reestablishing the Human Relations Commission, and when Jesus Lives! banners appeared on city-owned light poles they reacted.

The Mission of Citizens Project is to spotlight issues in the Pikes Peak region and mobilize people to strengthen the traditional values of our nation: equal rights, individual freedoms, separation of church and state, civic engagement, and respect for diversity. Please join us at the Gill Foundation Building, 315 E. Costilla St., on June 23rd at 7:00 pm and find out what Citizens Project is doing for our community, make suggests for them to consider, and find out how Freethinkers can help.
