Movie Night: Harold and Maude

August 15, 2017
6:30 to 8:45 pm
Aspen and Pine Rooms
Penrose Public Library
20 North Cascade Avenue

You are cordially invited to join the Freethinkers of Colorado Springs for Movie Nights on the third Tuesday of each month at Penrose Public Library, 20 North Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs.

The upcoming event is Tuesday, August 15th, at 6:30 pm. We will view the 1971 film "Harold and Maude," directed by Hal Ashby and starring Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon. Twenty-year-old Harold Chasen, solitary and friendless, is obsessed with death; he stages fake suicides, drives a hearse, and attends funerals of people he doesn't even know, all to the chagrin of the wealthy, exasperated mother with whom he lives. Mrs Chasen wants Harold to be "normal" so she sends him into therapy to deal with his issues and attempts to find him girlfriends through a dating service. While attending a funeral, Harold meets Maude, on the cusp of her eightieth birthday, who also attends strangers' funerals. Unlike Harold, Maude is obsessed with life and she is doing whatever she wants to please herself, damned what others may think or how they may be affected. Maude shows Harold how to truly live. "Harold and Maude" was panned by the critics back in the 1970s, but it has deservedly achieved the status of cult classic -- if you've never seen "Harold and Maude," don't miss this opportunity!

We have reserved the combined Aspen and Pine Rooms in  Penrose Library for these events. As you enter the building from Cascade Avenue, go straight ahead to the information desk, which is marked by the word "ASK" in large letters. Turn right and follow the wall to your right, past the elevator, and look for the big blue Freethinkers sign.

Once again, that’s "Harold and Maude," Tuesday, August 15th, 6:30 pm, at Penrose Public Library, 20 North Cascade Avenue. We hope you can join us!
