Penrose Library

20 North Cascade Avenue

You are cordially invited to join the Freethinkers of Colorado Springs for Movie Night at Penrose Public Library, 20 North Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs.

On Tuesday, May 21st, at 6:30 pm, we will view the Academy Award-nominated 1943 film, The Ox-Bow Incident. Directed by William Wellman, the story involves two driBers who are passing through a Western town when news comes in that a local farmer has been murdered and his caNle stolen. The townspeople, joined by the driBers, form a posse to catch the perpetrators. They find three men in possession of the caNle, and are determined to see justice done on the spot. Unlike many other westerns from the golden age of cinema, this one doesn’t focus on Cowboys and Indians or other such entertainment-friendly subjects; instead, the story is of a much more absorbing nature. The implicaons of this film can be applied to almost any me in history and they will be relevant. That is what makes The Ox-Bow Incident such a great, great film.

We have reserved the combined Aspen and Pine Rooms in Penrose Library for this event. As you enter the building from Cascade Avenue, go straight ahead to the informaon desk and turn right. Follow the wall to your right, past the elevator, and look for the big blue Freethinkers sign.

Hope to see you on Tuesday, May 21st, at Penrose Public Library for The Ox-Bow Incident.

Everybody welcome.
