The Freethinkers of Colorado Springs are very pleased to present “What Religious Conservatives don’t want to hear” by Former Vice Mayor Richard Skorman. Richard will relay his conversations with Jim and Shirley Dobson, former Mayor Lionel Rivera and many others from the social conservative community who don't want to hear that "they" hold values that "should" make them support Marriage Rights, Gay adoption, sex education, stem cell research, pre-marital sex, and pallative hospice care.

Richard Skorman is a familiar face in Colorado Springs politics. The former Vice Mayor and Colorado Springs council member ran to be the city’s first strong mayor. Skorman, 59, came to Colorado Springs in 1970 to attend Colorado College. · Skorman served seven years on City Council from 1999 to 2007 and was Vice Mayor from 2003 to 2005. While being Vice Mayor, he welcomed the Atheist Alliance Conference to Colorado Springs when the Mayor refused to do so. · Skorman is a member of the Fountain Creek Watershed Board. · Skorman served as Board Chair for the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments in 2000 and 2005. · Skorman served as the Pikes Peak Regional Director for U.S. Senator Ken Salazar from 2006 to 2008. · Skorman played an integral role in ensuring fresh water for our city by advocating for the Southern Delivery System Project (SDS) and was involved from 1999 to 2008. · Skorman founded the U.S. Environmental Film Festival in 1989 and was the Director in 1990 and 1991. · Skorman is an entrepreneur and small business owner of six successful companies with 55 employees. · Skorman has been a Director for the Colorado Trust for Public Land. · Skorman was the leader of two successful Trails Open Space and Parks (TOPS) Initiatives to expand the city’s parks and open space. · Skorman was the Fund raising Chair of the $1.6 million Stratton Land Campaign. · Skorman was the leader in the successful 787-acre Red Rock Canyon Open Space Campaign. · Skorman spearheaded the local Hurricane Katrina rescue efforts, providing care for 2,000 displaced people.
