Monthly Meeting -- September 26th 2012 “When Politicians Accidentally Say What They Really Mean.”

09/26/2012 - 19:00
09/26/2012 - 21:00

The monthly meeting of the Freethinkers of Colorado Springs takes place on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm. September’s meeting is scheduled on the 26th and is entitled “When Politicians Accidentally Say What They Really Mean.”

The Freethinkers will proudly present, not one, but two speakers at September’s meeting: Deborah Daly, a member of the group’s board of directors, and Gary Betchan, one of the group’s founding members. Please click on "read more" for complete details ...

Deborah will speak about the manipulation of language and, particularly, how that relates to the political process and to the way politicians carefully phrase their ideas so that they don’t accidentally say what they really mean.

Gary will discuss efforts to disenfranchise voters as a way to swing elections in a particular direction. Voter suppression efforts are nothing new, but, with a very important election on the horizon, they’ve been in the news a great deal lately.

The meeting will take place in the Adult Room at Penrose Library in downtown Colorado Springs; the address is 20 North Cascade Avenue. The library is on the west side of Cascade, south of Kiowa Street and north of Pikes Peak Avenue. As you enter the library from Cascade Avenue, take an immediate right and you’ll find Adult Room to your right.

Be sure to join the Freethinkers for lively discussions about the manipulation of language and voter disenfranchisement efforts. Once again, that’s Wednesday, September 26th, 7:00 pm, in the Adult Room at Penrose Library. Everyone’s invited and admission is free!
