Recently, one of the mega-churches in town that likes to try to recruit thinkers who have left their childhood religion, hosted a "dialog" between the executive of Focus on the Family and a local "liberal". The Liberal, who started of the evening by saying is NOT a liberal, was John Weiss, founder of the Springs "Independent Newspaper". The dialog mostly featured the Focus exec listing various reasons why abortion is the greatest gap between his conservative political movement and "liberals"; and John Weiss covering a variety of topics including forced vaccination, personal freedom and church-state separation. I must say, given the lack of agreement before-hand on the rules of the encounter, it was a fairly balanced presentation. At least until the very end when the preacher from the hosting church took the last few minutes for a sermon about his loving god.
