Resolving blogging

So here we are in yet another new year having recently celebrated the winter solstice.

The new year often brings "resolutions," personal promises to change something for our next elliptical circuit around our neighborhood main sequence star.  Therefore, if all goes well, this "blog" will experience (at least somewhat) regular entries, taking advantage of one of the resources available to (all) members the Freethinkers of Colorado Springs (FTCS) and in hopes of attracting readers, respondents and new opportunities.

While writing can be a time consuming process replete with multiple revisions and (for some) obsessive editing, blogging often appears to require a somewhat more relaxed approach to written communications.  While attempts will be made to relax my (seldom achieved) desire for perfection, I hope to provide high quality work for your (possible) enjoyment in this blog, despite a rather challenging schedule as FTCS leader and editor of the Freethougth Views column in the Colorado Springs Independent.

Unlike many leading 501(c)3 nonprofits or other large entities (such as newspapers) seeking to communicate with the public regarding issues of the day, the President of the Freethinkers of Colorado Springs Board of Directors receives no salary, office, telephone, personal assistant or any other benefit from their contributions other than serving the community of Colorado Springs freethinkers – FTCS members and nonmembers alike. While the FTCS hopes to one day make important tools such as these available to its leader(s) (and/or achieve the FTCS's goals of freethought and equality common enough that we can close our “doors”), our current financial situation prevents such expenditures.

Since it can be quite difficult for one person working independently (or even a small number of people working as a team) to respond to the numerous current events related to freethought in modern America (and especially Colorado Springs), this blog will allow short (assuming it is possible for me to create a short response), “real time” responses to developments the the FTCS are unable to otherwise address due to limited resources. In addition, it will be a window into the life of one person striving to live up to their oath of citizenship to the United States while attempting to achieve correct budgeting of time and efforts to this (and other) volunteer work with the goal of reserving something for employment, family, health and leisure.

It can be challenging (and isolating) to be a person willing to stand up and say something (no matter how controversial) when something must be said to protect and defend the foundations of rationality, freedom and equality. While some (even those sharing one's goals) may reject and even vehemently oppose actions extending beyond their personal limits of comfort, to paraphrase Abraham Lincoln, you can't please all the people all the time. I invite you to join me on my adventure, and request your feedback communicating what you think I am doing right – and (especially) wrong.

Thank you for your time and attention, and Happy New Year!
